Dear Region 154,

This last Monday evening we lost a great friend and all around wonderful guy.

Pete Kinnahan died from a sudden heart attack while playing basketball.  It is even now hard for me to believe.  He was so active.  When he wasn't refereeing soccer games he was giving walking tours of downtown Los Angeles or playing basketball twice a week or working with the city on the festival or playing with his grandchildren or...it just seems to go on and on.

All of us who are associated with Cypress AYSO soccer are blessed with the good fortune of belonging to an organization that is deep in true human resources.  Pete Kinnahan's commitment and involvement are a substantial reason for the relative ease we now have in providing the children of our community with such a quality product.  Pete was a gentleman who brought his positive attitude and kind smile out to the fields whenever he could help.

As a parent, a coach, a referee, Pete's AYSO record of service was both long and respected.  Both Pete, and his wife Pat, continued to referee both AYSO and club games.  He was preparing to take the National Referee course this weekend while Pat took the Advanced course.  And then they were both signed up to take the referee instructor's course the weekend after that!

Truly, they went out of their way to be helpful.  During our most recent Area playoffs, I called looking for help and managed to persuade Pete to come out and covered two games then drive home to cover for Pat who was babysitting their grandchildren.  Then Pat drove out and covered the afternoon's two games.

For those of you who don't remember, Pete was instrumental in the installation of the lights at Lexington Jr. High.
